Deepika Padukone as Rani Lakshmibai

Deepika Padukone, bollywood hottie and Indian model might play the role of Indian freedom fighter and historical queen Rani Lakshmibai, in a film co-produced by bollywood’s Firoz Nadiadwala and Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry.
Deepika Padukone has reportedly agreed to the film as she is extremely thrilled about the historical role. However, Deepika Padukone is yet to give her dates for the historical movie.
The I&B ministry has commissioned filmmaker Vinay Shukla to direct a film showcasing the unified efforts of freedom fighters like Tatya Tope, Rani Lakshmibai and Nansaheb Peshwa in the historical Indian freedom struggle.This is to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Indian First War of Independence.
Deepika Padukone is not the only bollywood actress to play the role of Rani Lakshmibai. Sushmita Sen, bollywood actress and former Miss Universe, wanted to portray the character of the legendary Rani Lakshmibai so badly that she’s decided to produce a film on her life.Sushmita Sen is all set to make the transition from beauty queen to warrior queen as she gears up to produce, direct and act in the bollywood movie “Jhansi Ki Rani”.
Rani Lakshmibai and her struggle for Indian freedom:
Rani Lakshmibai is a gutsy queen of erstwhile princely state Jhansi.Rani Lakshmibai was a sword-wielding, horse-riding warrior, who challenged the British after they refused to recognise her adopted child as the heir to the throne. Rani Lakshmibai’s revolt quickly became a key focus of the famous 1857 Indian mutiny against the colonial rulers, started by a handful of Indian soldiers.
Rani Lakshmibai emerged as a symbol of resistance to British rule before her death at the age of 23 on the battlefield, fighting British soldiers in 1858.
It is no wonder that bollywood actresses Deepika Padukone and sushmita sen are so thrilled to portray the role of a brave and young Indian queen.
